Successful Vinnies Late Out Event

Community Event Showcases Vinnie’s Impact and Engages OLGC Senior Students.

Despite tough times, we have been so blessed with our community coming together to make the OLGC Vinnie’s Late Out for 2024 possible.

On the evening of Friday, August 16, the OLGC school community united to support those in need. Senior Students from OLGC were treated to a simple soup kitchen dinner, made possible by generous parent volunteers and donations from Coles Forestville, Woolworths Frenchs Forest, Ziplock, Continental and Global Quality Foods.

OLGC students played a crucial role in the event, showing their dedication to making a difference in their community.

A highlight of the evening was a moving speech by John – A representative from Vinnie’s Chapter, who provided valuable insights into the incredible work Vinnie’s does. The powerful address left everyone with a deeper understanding of the organisation’s mission and the positive impact it has on countless lives. John presented the children with badges and stickers.

In a collective act of kindness, over 200 snack packs were assembled, each with handwritten, personalised messages of hope and encouragement for those who would receive them. This session offered a meaningful opportunity for reflection on the significance of the attendees’ efforts.

Principal Paola Brannan, Assistant Principal Alexis Conn, OLGC Mini Vinnie’s Leader and Year 5 teacher, Steve Foresto, were also present, adding to the event’s spirit. Their support and participation underscored the power of collaboration. Senior teachers were thanked for promoting the event, contributing to its impressive turnout.

Special thanks to Steve Foresto, Year 5 teacher and Mini Vinnie’s Coordinator for his presentation which was both touching, real and truly inspiring.

The event was a testament to the strength of unity and compassion, as attendees came together to make a positive impact on those in need. Special thanks to the P & F for their role in organising the event. The teamwork displayed was truly exceptional!

In a humorous twist, despite some initial parental scepticism, most of the children ended up enjoying the soup served during the event.

The dedication and passion shown by all involved reaffirm the belief that even small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect of positive change.
