Parent & Parish News Week 10

Back by popular demand and amazing efforts in previous years is SOCKTOBER!

This year we are focusing on raising funds for those in need in Mongolia.

Mongolia, a land of vast steppes, rugged mountains, and nomadic culture, is one of the most fascinating and unique countries in the world.

Nestled between Russia and China, Mongolia boasts a rich history dating back to the era of Genghis Khan.

Its people are known for their warmth, resilience, and deep connection to their land and traditions.

From the bustling capital of Ulaanbaatar to the serene expanse of the Gobi Desert, Mongolia offers a blend of ancient heritage and modern development.

We have a school page already set up and ready to go with fundraising however, there is a catch!

This year – each grade will fundraise as a group. The grade who raises the most will receive a prize which I will reveal later.

For example, Year 1 students can register for Year 1 at our school and try to raise the most across our school

Prizes and Socktober EVENT will be early TERM 4.  More exciting details to be announced soon!

Steps to get fundraising:

  1. SIGN UP https://www.socktober.org.au/
  2. LINK YOUR ACCOUNT TO OUR SCHOOL AND YOUR GRADE (Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School Forestville)
  3. Start raising FUNDS for those in need

Thank you for making a difference to the lives of those in need.

I look forward to supporting this fundraising event at OLGC, with the support of our staff, students and community.

Together we can move mountains, and I look forward to together reflecting on all that we have achieved for those in need last year.

Alpha Retreat

Yesterday our Year 6 students attended Alpha retreat at St Anthony’s on the Fields Church along with our friends at St Martin’s Primary School.

The students have been engaged in a program this term called Alpha where they deepen their understanding and connection to God & their faith.

We concluded the program and enjoyed discussions, games, yummy pizza and built new friendships.

A special thanks to our Year 6 teachers, Mrs Bland & Mr Egan, Mrs Bragge & Miss Houston for their support of our children in the program and efforts to make the retreat such a success.

Holidays are here

Thank you, parents, for all your efforts in working with your children to help make them the best that they can be. We sincerely appreciate your support in getting your children ready each day for school, guiding them with support with their homework and giving them opportunities to shine. Parenting is not easy and there are no manuals to assist us. Just know that you are doing a great job parenting as the children come to school each day, dressed, fed and happy.

Enjoy the holidays and time with your family. Time together is special and should be cherished.

Confirmation

We had a wonderful confirmation celebration on Saturday, 14 September. The children were confirmed in beautiful ceremonies led by Bishop Anthony Randazzo. Thank you to all our parents who prepared the children so well for the occasion. We look forward to celebrating the next sacrament for these children next year.

Parish news

RCIA- As the children in our school learn about the Catholic faith in their daily Religious Education lessons and by attending masses and reconciliation, it can open up questions for us all. Our Parish welcomes those who are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith.  If you would like more information on Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, please feel free to contact the parish office and learn about how adults can learn about the faith and how to become a Catholic.

Parish Prime Youth Group

The next Parish Prime Youth Group for students in Years 5 & 6 will be held in the Parish Centre includes games and pizza. 6.00pm – 7.30pm.

Terrey Hills Landcare Group

Sunday, 3 November (3-5pm) is the next 2024 Youth Landcare Project date at Kieran’s Creek, St Anthony in the Fields, (46 Myoora Rd, Terrey Hills NSW 2084).
