Mathematics

This involves learning skills for life through the areas of Number, Space and Geometry, Patterns and Algebra, Data, Measurement and Working Mathematically.

Mathematics is a reasoning and creative activity employing abstraction and generalisation to identify, describe and apply patterns and relationships. The symbolic nature of mathematics provides a powerful concise and precise means of communication. Mathematics K-10 syllabus develops children’s knowledge and understanding in number and algebra, measurement and space, and statistics and probability. Refined mathematical understanding, fluency, communication, logical reasoning, analytical thought and problem- solving skills are all cultivated through the syllabus.

The children at OLGC learn through explicit teaching and open-ended tasks and challenges. Specific and individualised questions ensure thatthey continue to progress at their own level. Data is collected through work samples, standardised tests and teacher observations which then inform the next teaching program.
